A couple of months ago we were beyond honored to be asked to join a stellar crew of vendors at the West Elm and Green Wedding Shoes Wedding Party they held in the Beverly Hills store. Of course, being paired up with our favorite Little Branch gals is always a treat but to also share the store with Bash Please, Moon Canyon, Primary Petals, Firefly Events, Shindig Chic and so, so many more amazing, talented people. I LOVED our set-up and I hope one of you lovelies hires us to recreate this for a wedding because it’s so much fun! Last spring we were lucky enough to be a part of an epic DIY wedding at the Moniker Warehouse in San Diego. Not only were the bride and groom uber-creative and talented (they designed and produced most of the decor for their modern, bohemian, industrial, camping-inspired party) but the team they put together was pretty much the dreamiest – PowWow, MIHO, Let’s Frolic Together, Mostra Coffee. It doesn’t get much better than that!

We were so excited when Katherine and Ricardo asked us to help design and coordinate their vibrant, fun and elegant wedding in Balboa Park. It was such a nice departure from the neutral palettes, as lovely as they are, that we’ve been seeing so much of recently. The tone and vibe of this awesome party definitely matched the decor with a musician-led parade through Balboa Park, phenomenal cocktails and beer from Blind Lady Ale House, delicious food from The Vetted Table and a no-holding-back dance party. Tucked away in the Spanish Village Arts Center we felt like we had been transported to a vibrant South American or European city and the night was truly magical. And, of course, as always, Studio Castillero’s photos are to-die-for. The Bride and Groom’s beaming smiles throughout the evening were the best part of the entire event!

I met the gorgeous Jelynn at this wedding where her company Mostra was serving up delicious brew. A few months later we were at her own beautiful wedding in Palm Springs. It was one of the hottest weekends ever at the oh-so-cool Colony Palms Hotel but no one seemed to mind….especially when a pool party broke out at the end of the night starting with the bride and groom! Encarnacion Photography went above and beyond (jumping into the pool themselves) to capture every moment perfectly!
The amazing same-day edit from N Compass Cinema was such a treat to watch that evening!
We don’t really have anything to complain about weather-wise in Southern California but I know some folks are looking longingly out there frosted windowpanes and dreaming of brighter, warmer days. Hopefully this tropical-inspired wedding shoot we designed last Spring will be just the thing to heat things up. We built the table ourselves with mid-century modern hairpin legs that went oh-so-well with our Palm Springs abode – The Amado. If you are visiting Palm Springs try to snag one of these rooms. It is such an incredible spot. And if you’re getting married in Palm Springs it would be the perfect wedding party hangout or rehearsal dinner compound. We also handcrafted the tulle skirt to pair with Mara Hoffman‘s stunning bridal bustier and hand-painted bells for the escort cards (one of our favorite bohemian details!). This shoot was just bursting with creativity from the talented minds of Jen Plus Colour, The Little Branch, Papermade Design and Cucina Coronado. And, of course, Ashley Kelemen Photography‘s images are, like always, beyond dreamy. A lot of these shots have been making the rounds on Instagram and Pinterest too and we couldn’t be happier!

I can’t believe I haven’t shared this wedding with you yet! It is too good to keep hidden away for this long. This wedding was filled to the brim with rad details….details almost as rad as the creative, smart, cool couple for whom we made them. Suzana and Frank are just the ultimate dream clients. They wanted something fun, quirky, colorful, stylish and vibrant…the perfect mix of their personalities. And the fun didn’t stop with the details….oh no we had a mariachi band, a taco cart, Pharmacie cocktails, a delectable Whoa Nelly feast and, of course, a crazy, fun dance party with Haute Mobile Disco. I wanted to take a moment between real wedding blog posts to talk a little bit about our process and specifically what it means to be one of our lovely, amazing Design Clients. We have two kinds of Design Clients – the Full Design Client and the DIY Client. We love both equally and will touch a little bit on what it means to be Full Design vs DIY at the end of this post. For now, we’ll focus on what it means to be a SEJ Full Design Client.
Consultation and Questionnaire
After you’ve hired us to be a part of your wedding dream team we’ll sit down and get to the nitty gritty of getting to know you, your style and your vision. We do this in a couple of ways. One is looking through everything that you find inspiring. This can be images, quotes, decor, places…whatever it is that speaks to you and your ultimate dream wedding vision. These don’t need to be strictly wedding-related and, in fact, we find it more helpful to look outside of the wedding world for inspiration from your favorite lyric in a song that is special to you or the first place you visited as a couple. These are the things that will really get our creative juices flowing and make the overall design more personal. Next step will be the big, fat questionnaire which we think is really fun to fill out. This is where we find out all the awesome, quirky, beautiful things that make you unique and will, ultimately, make your wedding unique.
After spending time letting all that information sink in, coming up with ideas and finding the perfect photos and examples to express those ideas, we send you what we call the Design Blueprint. This is a 20+ page document, based on your inspiration and your questionnaire, outlining everything that we could include in the overall design from the invitations to the linen choices to one-of-a-kind, handcrafted decor pieces. Your blueprint will also include an inspiration board, color palette, overall style and theme description, and, if you’re taking on any projects of your own, materials resources and project instructions.
Sourcing and Creating
Once you have fallen in love with your Design Blueprint and we all do a little happy dance, we get to work on making that vision a reality. We will contact your design vendors, create rental orders and proposals all based on your Blueprint. We will source, purchase and store any and all decor as well as handcraft all those awesome, personal touches in-house.
The Big Day
After working with your vendors, sourcing materials and creating decor we are ready to put everything into place. Whether we are by your side as Coordinators as well or not, we will install, set-up and style every aspect of the Design as well as work with all those vendors who have a hand in making the vision come to life – lighting, florist, rentals, etc. – to ensure that everything reflects your style and vision.
For our incredible DIY clients, the process for the Design Blueprint is basically the same. Through going over your inspiration photos and your questionnaire we create a custom Design Blueprint. In addition to everything mentioned above we will also include Vendor Referrals and Project Instructions so that you can have all the tools to create a perfect, personalized wedding day. A great option for the DIY couple is to have us come on for the day-of to install, set-up and style all the beautiful decor that you have put your love into over the planning process. That way you can feel confident that your vision is put into place just the way you want it without needing to stress or lift a finger on your big day!
I’m so excited to share this Santa Barbara wedding with you today! Melanie and Justin have the most fun personalities and styles (obviously as a stylist Melanie knows a thing or two about style!). I was honored to take on the task of creating a bold, beautiful, fun, flirty wedding for them at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.
