If you pay attention very carefully you may notice that there are actually seasons in Southern California.  The biggest seasonal switch up that I look forward to every year is Spring.  We usually get a little bit of rain amidst all the dry weather and the flowers, trees and foliage that come around March and April are simply magnificent.  It’s stunning to watch the transformation in our own backyards.  Along with this awakening comes a fresh approach to wedding attire.  The wedding season gets into full swing around this time too so some of you may be heading out to a few celebrations.  I love this simple, straightforward infographic from The Black Tux which outlines what is appropriate to wear based upon the style of the event.  A couple other tips from us –

+Definitely do a little research on the venue before you go.  If it’s outdoors on grass or somewhere a little more rustic be mindful of your shoes.  No stilettos please!  Flats or wedges work perfectly for al fresco weddings or bring along some heel protectors if you must wear heels.  If it has rained recently be careful of long gowns especially in light colors which will show dirt more than a darker color.

+Yes, the days are warmer but the nights can still get very cool.  Bring along a light jacket for casual events and a chic cropped jacket for a more formal look.  I’m loving this gold jacket for cocktail or black tie.  Personally I just throw my black leather jacket over a sundress or an evening gown.

+Guys, you have it a little easier but The Black Tux simplified things even more for you!  Check out their infographic below for the best attire options for you this Spring.  And they have you covered for every option with their suit and tuxedo rentals.  Don’t be afraid to add in a little color or pattern with your accessories.  I am loving the floral pattern ties and pocket squares I’ve been seeing on some of my grooms and guests this year.

And, just an FYI, this is NOT a sponsored post.  I just really like The Black Tux!  Happy renting!

The very first day that I met Tiff and Vic in my office I knew that I had to be a part of this whimsical couple’s Joshua Tree wedding.   Joshua Tree holds a very special place in my heart.  It is a location like no other and I swear true magic exists there.  This vibrant, quirky and unique celebration was the perfect pairing for my favorite desert town.  As avid X-File fans of course we had to bring in some extraterrestrial and celestial inspiration from their amazing invitations by Shipwright and Co. to custom mystical creature table number drawings.  These two were not afraid of bringing in color and we did just that with mismatched fabric the bride found, multicolored parasols and rugs for the ceremony, and lush, bright blooms paired with gold metallic touches.

I can still remember our first SmogShoppe wedding many, many moons ago.  We have done a dozen or more weddings there since then but it still remains a favorite Los Angeles venue.  They attract the best clients and Crisella and Anthony were no exception.  In fact, they are the cream of the crop in my opinion.  Just the kindest, most giving, sweet couple and their wedding day was truly special.

One of our hands down favorite weddings has to be this epic El Capitan Canyon wedding we were lucky enough to be a part of two years ago.  Being surrounded by this gorgeous setting and some of our beloved vendor friends –Day Of GalAmber Moon DesignRed Shoe LAThe Little Branch just to name a few – was a dream.  We built custom benches (a labor of love for sure) and curated some amazing decor pieces.  We always love seeing our copper arch used in real life.  It looks stunning here against the mountainside with lush, pampas grass arrangements. When a couple trusts their vendors to create something magical for them magical things can really happen!

We fell in love with The Ruin in Pioneertown’s Pipes Canyon the moment we set foot on it’s sandy foundation.  It really takes some creativity and vision to see this structure and transform it into the magical place like Paul and Tony have done.  All the changes that they have made and the changes that they don’t make (keeping the structure as is for the most part) create this romantic, wonderful, spectacular setting.  We had so much fun being a part of Laura and Dan’s wedding there.  It’s always windy in Yucca Valley but it was exceptionally windy this day which presented some challenges. We had troubleshoot a bit but everything turned out just beautiful in the end (thanks to lots of tape, wire and grit!).

Such a good day. Everything looked so so amazing!!ReplyCancel

We recently got together in a gorgeous, light-filled downtown Los Angeles loft with some of our favorite vendors and put together a design I’ve been dreaming about for a long time.  I was so happy when Whiskers and Willow asked me if I wanted to be a part of a more modern, minimal design.  I’ve always tried to take a more simple approach towards design and never want to just throw everything on the table so to speak.  This was a true exercise in restraint but of course I can’t stray too far from my wild roots and had to incorporate overgrown, organic florals into the mix.  The perfect dance partner for a subdued table.  This was also a great way to kick off our new floral venture – McCool + Daughters.  We have always offered floral design to our clients but are hoping to expand and grow in that area.  We are honored and thrilled to be featured on Once Wed today!!!

We love Saddlerock Ranch.  Every location is stunning but we have a special place in our hearts for the dome.  The breathtaking views and intimate dinner space make for some unforgettable events.  The hill can be brutal on the legs and even more so when you walk it 100 times throughout an evening but it’s worth it.  Especially when you have a killer team like this one with The Heart’s Haven behind the lens, Shindig Chic on flower duty, Whoa Nelly in the kitchen, Grimace Films doing their thing and The Class providing the tunes.  And, hello, zebras!
