Retro Christmas Brunch and Christmas Cracker DIY

I had to bring back the retro brunch photo shoot we did earlier this year for Ruffled because I think it would just be the cutest Christmas brunch.  Hot pink and aqua is a fun little twist on the classic red and green palette.  It is a Christmas tradition in our family to pop some Christmas crackers at brunch every year.  We wear the paper crowns and tell each other the cheesy jokes we find in each one.  I had made these crackers for the photo shoot out of recycled paper towel rolls and filled them with candy but you can fill them with whatever holiday goodies you’d like.  Check out the bottom of the post for the instructions!

Are you looking forward to any holiday traditions?

Christmas crackers or poppers

Materials:

Paper towel or tissue paper roll

Tissue or crepe paper in various colors

Cardstock (optional)

Circle or decorative paper punch (optional)

Double-sided Tape or Paper Glue

Ribbon

Candy or goodies to fill

Instructions:

Step One: Cut paper towel roll to desired length or leave tissue paper roll as is.  I found you can get more our of using the paper towel roll even if they are just a little smaller than normal.

Step Two: Place double stick tape on one side of tissue paper and place paper roll on tape.  Roll across tissue paper and apply tape on end of tissue paper and secure.  Cut off any excess tissue paper.

Step Three: Twist one end of tissue paper and secure with ribbon and tie in a knot or bow.

Step Four: Fill roll with candy and/or goodies.

Step Five: Twist other end and secure with ribbon and tie in a knot or a bow.

Step Six: Cut a different color of tissue paper just slightly smaller than the length of your roll.  Fringe both sides and using double sided tape or glue adhere in center of roll.

Step Seven: Cut a third color of tissue paper slightly smaller than your middle piece and adhere to roll.

Step Eight (optional): Punch out sparkly cardstock and/or paper with guests’ names with a circle punch and, using tape or glue, attach to your popper.

Pop and enjoy!

Jamie Oliver puts actual snaps (looks like they’re only available at Amazon UK?) in his DIY Christmas Crackers and has a how-to for the paper crowns!

Engagement: Lindsey + Michael

I’d like to introduce you to one of my most favorite couples ever!  These two are as vivacious and fun as you would imagine from their engagement session below.  They have an incredible love story that they tell in the most fabulous way and they are just such a thrill to be around.  I can’t wait for their March wedding at LA River Center and Gardens.  It is going to be a blast!

A couple of months ago they waltzed around downtown with Cakes & Kisses for an adorable, balloon-filled engagement shoot.  I love how giggly they get with each other!

They’re friend Elan of Heart Shoppe Photography tagged along as a second shooter and her images are just stunning.  You better watch out for this new force in LA wedding photography!  She is awesome!

Lindsey M. - Eeeee I love these! And only three and a half months until the wedding…yay! I also want to credit the fabulous ladies at Fiore Beauty for my hair and makeup in all of these pictures!

Dear Mr. McClaus…

Thanks to Pinterest my wishlist has become a little out of control this year.  Most of these are totally not even close to being in the realm of possibilites…I should probably just start calling this my “Get Real List”…but there are a couple affordable gifts that my own personal Santa might be willing to splurge on!

Black, White and…

I’m a little obsessed with this color palette right now.  I think it is the most perfect modern winter wedding combo especially for a rockstar New Year’s fête.  Shimmery, glittery goodness paired with bold, geometric graphics makes the ultimate design duo.

Raquel - Thank you Emilia for putting such a fun inspiration board together! I’m planning a 100th birthday party for my Grandpa’s birthday next year & these were exactly the colors I was thinking of using. :)

Sneak Peek: Claudine + Michael

I just realized that I have SO many weddings from 2011 that I have yet to blog!  I’m working on getting all the images together to share with you but for now here is a sneak peek of the wedding we did at the Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse last month.  This is probably my favorite wedding design to date.  It was modern rustic glam with a little fairytale thrown in.  We did the design and flowers and my AWESOME team and I spent the day on the farm setting up this rustic wonderland.  EPLove…there are so many incredible things I could say about EPLove…they are just fanTAStic.  Just check out their photos and I’m sure you’ll agree!

Stacy - Your work is always amazing. I can’t wait to see the rest!
